Job Description

We are looking for a driven Chemical Process Safety Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our excellent team based in Skellefteå. By joining us, you will be a key player in establishing Upstream and contribute to building one of the first large scale European battery factories.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible to support service recipients in implementing Northvolt Group EHS requirements and guidance documents, to provide consultancy and support to fulfil legal and Northvolt requirements on process safety in Sweden.
  • Acting as a Process Safety expert to ensure high quality Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Reviews for new capital investment projects and existing plant according to Northvolt Group EHS requirements and guidance documents.
  • Provide guidance in implementation of guidelines and programs through workshops and training, and monitoring implementation at the site by continuous reviews, assessments, and audits to achieve and continuously improve high standards of Process Safety performance
  • Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) reviews of critical changes at the sites as part of MOC (Management of Changes) process, non-standard or new activities at the site level.

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have :

  • Master’s degree in chemical or industrial engineering
  • 3+ years experience in chemical industry (preferable in Cathode Active material manufacturing but not mandatory).
  • Knowledge of Process Safety
  • Knowledge of operating production plant(s) comprising various unit operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of common hazard assessment techniques is mandatory (e.g., ICI HAZOP or similar technique)
  • Conduct process safety risk analysis, HAZOP (Hazard and Operability study)
  • Well-developed conflict management skill to reach team consensus is mandatory.
  • xcellent English written and oral skills.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience and interest in manufacturing industry
  • Fluency in other languages (Japanese, Swedish, Chinese, French)
  • Experience from a multi-cultural environment
  • Diploma in Industrial Safety.
  • Exposed with Swedish or European process safety guideline.
