How to contribute to our vision

The Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) Research and Development (R&D) Engineering Graduate Programme is targeted at graduates from a variety of pathways and developing them over a two-year period to be able to fulfil professional roles available within the organization. This an outstanding opportunity to join a team who are the forefront of emerging technologies, contributing towards the fight to a more sustainable future.

The graduate programme is structured around placements in working departments where you will be integrated into the team and learn through experiencing the day-to-day activities. These will be supplemented by a pair of shorter placements in remote (away from your base) locations aimed at improving your appreciation of other teams and their work.

Following successful completion of the graduate training you will have an opportunity to apply to join one of our engineering teams.

  • Systems Engineering & Projects

  • Power Electronics & Systems

  • Converter Control 

  • Software, Modelling and Control 

  • Product Support 

  • Generator Design and Control

Some of the type of work you will have the opportunity to involved during the programme include:

  • Design and engineer the component down to detail to satisfy the specified requirements of the customer

  • Define the products and subcomponents to be used including their characteristics and requirements

  • Develop detailed solutions for the system integration of the individual elements as a functioning unit

  • Take responsibility for the realization of the component with the required functionality, prepares the design documentation

  • Working as team member with other members of UK (United Kingdom) R&D team and wider engineering team

  • Internal and external contacts at all levels

  • Research into new and emerging technologies

  • Evaluation of potential technical solutions with evolution to design solutions

  • Liaison with Suppliers

  • Production of detailed technical specification for procured items.

  • Validation of components/equipment in laboratory/wind turbines.

  • Creation of system models and utilisation of them to perform simulations

  • Control system design and implementation

  • Software design, code and test

  • Working under the supervision of senior professional engineers in the design of power hardware, software and control solutions to meet specification

What you need to make a difference

A passion for renewable energy and a sense of urgency to lead the change. You will have a min 2:1 degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Sciences or be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge in the electrical engineering domain.

You will also have:

  • Genuine enthusiasm, interest and ability in research and development

  • Good communications skills (written & verbal) in order to liaise with suppliers

  • Ability to grasp new concepts

  • Thorough & methodical mentality

  • Responsibility & ownership attitude

  • Good personal organisation

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Willingness to travel and work on wind turbines sites and with R&D collaborators

You will also be happy to work at either of our three sites across the UK: Keele, Glasgow and Sheffield. You will be expected to attend the office on a weekly basis under our hybrid working policy.
