Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our excellent Visions team based in Stockholm. By joining us, you will be a key player in establishing and ramping up Northvolt's gigafactories.

The visions team, responsible for the vision systems in the factory, offers a pivotal role in software development, particularly for electrode inspection. Your primary focus will center on backend development for the web application used in image display and analysis. Additionally, you'll provide support for edge vision systems and, depending on your interest, delve into machine learning, computer vision, and distributed systems design.

As a key player, you'll delve into understanding data processing and storage, as the vision systems churn out terabytes of data. You'll also collaborate with cross-functional teams within Northvolt, allowing you to explore further into machine learning deployments, computer vision, or databases. We're seeking someone enthusiastic about learning and driving the future of software in battery manufacturing. Expect to visit factories to gain firsthand insight into manufacturing processes and observe the machines in action.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Development of the web application used in the factory
• Data modelling and database performance
• Improving uptime and API performance
• Product and engineering trade-offs in order to support product development
• Own the pipeline from edge (AWS kinesis) to frontend

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have :

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience related to software development)
• Strong understanding of backend development principles and their application to web applications
• Proficiency in a high-level programming language such as Python, Go or Typescript (the current implementation is a combination of Go and Python and willingness to learn these are a must)
• Experience with serverless architectures
• Experience with relational databases such as Postgres, Mysql or similar (we are currently using Timescale)
• Knowledge within version control (Git)
• Competency within CI/CD (we are using GitHub Actions)
• Proficiency within infrastructure as code
• Experience of working with a cloud vendor (we are using AWS)

Bonus points for:

• Knowledge with ML ops and running machine learning models on the edge
• Experience from NoSQL and trade-offs between NoSQL and SQL
• Competency within data analysis for debugging and helping vision team to better understand performance
• Computer vision experience
• Experience from frontend development
• Expertise within software optimization
• Knowledge within optimizations of deep learning models for inference
• Experience of mentoring junior colleagues
