Job Description

Northvolt presents an exciting opportunity for a master’s student to undertake a thesis project focused on developing an innovative contacting solution for discharging battery packs. This project offers autonomy and the chance to contribute to the forefront of battery recycling technology. By joining our team in Västerås, you'll be at the forefront of building one of Europe's leading battery recycling facilities, playing a pivotal role in the shift towards a sustainable, resource-efficient society.

As a master’s student undertaking this thesis, you will delve into the development of advanced methodologies for deep discharging battery packs. Your responsibilities will include defining, designing, and testing flexible contact solutions to optimize the discharging process. Collaborating closely with our team, you'll have the freedom to innovate while ensuring alignment with safety protocols and industry standards. Furthermore, if a patent is filed for the contacting solution developed during this thesis, you will be included as one of the inventors, recognizing your contribution to groundbreaking research in battery recycling technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and develop pioneering contacting solutions for battery pack discharge.
  • Collaborate with the team to integrate solutions into existing processes.
  • Conduct thorough testing and analysis to evaluate performance and efficiency.
  • Document findings and contribute to the advancement of battery recycling technology.
  • Engage in ongoing learning and skill development within the field.

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have :

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s program in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Strong understanding of mechanics and iterative prototyping
  • Understanding electrical systems is a plus
  • CAD experience is a plus.
  • 3D printing experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for innovation and a proactive approach to research and development.
  • Proficiency in English.
