Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager of our Cell Analysis Laboratory to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of the Quality Organisation, and integrated in Labs, our R&D centre in Västerås, where we are developing the next generation of battery technology. Here we produce, advance and validate materials and cells for our customers. By joining us, you will be a key player in understanding our battery cells and their components and contribute to building one of the first large scale European battery factories.

About the job

Chemical, physical and mechanical analysis are fundamental to understand our battery cells and their components, to select suppliers, to control quality of incoming material and in production, and to understand failure mechanisms and causes. In this role you manage and lead the Cell Analysis Laboratory, comprising a mechanical, a chemical and a failure analysis laboratory. You work with internal customers and equipment suppliers, define, own and execute the method and equipment roadmap, as well as the development and validation of analytical methods.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for operating the Cell Analysis Laboratory, including mechanical and chemical materials analysis, incoming quality control, process quality control and failure analysis.

  • Leading and Managing a diverse organisation of e.g. Managers, Engineers, Analytical chemists, Metallurgists, Technicians and support functions.

  • Identify and align analysis requirements from internal customers. Derive a methodology and -equipment roadmap, align with relevant stakeholders such as internal customers, experts and other laboratories, and execute it.

  • Accountable for method development and -validation, as well as maintenance and calibration of the instruments, documentation and training.

  • Accountable for the Cell Analysis Laboratory facilities, ensuring safe operation by employees in the laboratories at all times.

  • Manage the project plan for establishment of the QC- lab including layout, specifications, support in the RFQ process and execution of installations and commissioning of new analytical instruments.

  • Responsible for efficient execution of quality controls and inspections according to all control plans, demand vs capacity tracking, data management and storage

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have :

  • MSc in e.g. Chemistry, Materials Science or Chemical/Industrial/Mechanical engineering, or material science.

  • 5+ years’ experience in leading and managing an analytical- or quality control laboratory.

  • Proven track record in chemical, physical and mechanical analysis methods and -instruments.

  • Experienced in sourcing and commissioning new analytical instruments.

  • Experienced in implementing, developing and validating new analytical and control methods.

  • Proven track record in statistical and measurement system analysis (MSA) or validation studies in a laboratory or production environment.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience and interest in manufacturing industry
  • Specific knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. ISO 9001, IATF16949, TQM as well as Lean and six sigma.
  • Experience in automotive industry, or as a supplier to automotive business is an advantage together with experience of SC/CC for components and what it means for quality controls and PPAP.
  • Experience from a multi-cultural environment
