Job Description

As a Forward Deployed Software Engineer within the Deployment engineering department at Northvolt, you will play a pivotal role in enabling the seamless rollout and integration of our in-house Manufacturing Execution System (MES) solution across various sites. You will act as the subject matter expert of our MES and have the technical responsibility to oversee the design and integration of this solution into our new factories.

In addition to supporting expansion projects, you will guide local engineers on design, deployment & integration of our MES solutions. You will be involved in integration projects from the initial design all the way to the delivery and on-site testing. Alongside these activities, you will be supporting and mentoring junior members in their growing journey.

We are in search of experienced software engineers with a passion for working in a cross-functional environment, particularly those with expertise in system design, especially in industrial applications and IoT products. You will serve as a subject matter expert for specific MES products and factory areas, working tirelessly to enhance the efficiency and smoothness of rollouts for our local teams. Bonus points if you have previous knowledge or education in industrial engineering topics. Part of your responsibilities involves collaborating with machine suppliers to align their designs with our MES expectations; you will closely collaborate with our internal MES team to facilitate the development of new products based on your extensive knowledge of the factory and emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities :

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop integration and roll-out tools.
• Create and maintain connectivity guidelines to ensure seamless communication between MES products and manufacturing equipment.
• Lead the onboarding process for local engineers, providing necessary training and support for them to be able to set up our MES solution properly.
• Actively participate in design reviews and contribute to the development of best practices.
• Develop and implement connectivity applications running on IoT gateways alongside manufacturing equipment, orchestrated in a Kubernetes cluster.
• Lead and define MES system design and configuration for new manufacturing line
• Translate Northvolt requirements to technical solutions together with suppliers and internal MES teams

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, any industrial engineering subject, or a related field.
• Proven experience in deploying and integrating MES solutions in manufacturing environments is a plus.
• Proficient in any modern programming language (Golang, Java, Python…).
• Experience in system design, particularly in industrial applications and IoT products.
• Passion for working in a cross-functional environment, and collaborating with diverse teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work across diverse teams.
• Ability to act as a subject matter expert for specific MES products and factory areas.

Bonus points:

• Experience in Kubernetes, microservices architecture, and cloud-based solutions.
• Knowledge of Golang
• Willingness to travel to supplier site for testing and validation of equipment
