Job Description

Northvolt Poland is looking for an experienced Lead Automation Engineer! You would will join an excellent Automation Engineering team who values teamwork and trust, and an environment perfect for career development and implementing innovative ideas.

You will have the opportunity from day one to actively program our manufacturing equipment PLC and Robots, to successfully launch current and future manufacturing lines. You would coordinate and lead teams of Automation and Senior Automation Engineers or Technicians to drive team excellence through technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to successfully complete high technical projects.

Responsibilities are, but not limited to:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for PLC, Robot, SCADA, HMI codes.
  • Provide training and support for team members' automation programming skills.
  • Conduct automation design reviews and deliver software solution designs.
  • Translate factory design inputs into automation specifications and control system architecture.
  • Design and implement advanced automation systems for diverse equipment integration and increased productivity.
  • Design, implement and testing of electrical schematic design of machine controls panels using desired CAD tool (i.e E-Plan).
  • Design, implement and testing of PLC code delivering desired system functionality for machinery and data connectivity to the desired SCADA or MES system.
  • Creating test protocols for automation solutions
  • Design and implement automation systems for advanced factories, consisting of conveyors, vision systems, robotics, AGV’s and specialized manufacturing equipment

Skills & Requirements

We believe you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, or Software Engineering with 8+ years of industrial automation experience in sectors like automotive, semiconductor, pharmaceuticals, etc.
  • Extensive expertise in PLC/SCADA programming, including Siemens TIA portal and Beckhoff systems (8+ years), as well as OPC connectivity and MES Interface (5+ years).
  • Proven track record of developing robot cells, preferably with KUKA, FANUC, or ABB robots, alongside successful implementation of advanced automation systems (8+ years).
  • Strong technical documentation skills, including requirement specifications, functional design, UML, test cases, and records.
  • Experience in working with servo drives, motion technology, and multicultural environments.

Northvolt Ett is a next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, the gigafactory will be one of the largest battery cell factory in Europe and produce at least 32 GWh of capacity annually.

Alongside Northvolt Ett, Northvolt is also establishing a manufacturing site for battery systems in Gdansk, Poland. This facility, Northvolt Battery Systems Jeden, will industrialize and produce world leading battery systems in order to meet the increased demand for complete battery solutions on the European market. The factory is a highly automated, state-of-the-art production facility for battery modules and energy storage solutions.

We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a dynamic environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs in Västerås, as well as Northvolt Battery Systems Jeden, in Gdansk, for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå.
