HR Operations Manager

Human Resources

Via is using technology to transform transportation around the world. From changing a single person’s daily commute to reducing humanity’s collective environmental footprint — we’ve got huge goals.

As Via's first local HR Operations Manager, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to shape this role from the ground up and make it your own! You’ll play a key role in supporting our frontline/hourly employees by overseeing HR processes such as policy implementation, compliance, employee support, and real-time issue resolution, all while fostering a positive and fair workplace culture.

This is a hands-on role — we’re a one-team culture, and you’ll be rolling up your sleeves to support across the board, whether it's stepping in for a short-term project, offering guidance to an employee, or diving into new HR initiatives.

Collaborating closely with Via’s core HR team, you’ll act as a trusted partner, providing a safe space for feedback and ensuring strong relationships with our employees. With great judgment, attention to detail, and a focus on process, you’ll help shape an employee experience that aligns with Via’s mission.

**NOTE: this is a 5-day a week in-person role**

What You'll Do:

  • Manage all aspects of employee onboarding and offboarding, including pre-employment requirements, orientation, exit interviews, and necessary documentation.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation and unemployment claims, ensuring timely processing and compliance with regulations.
  • You act as the eyes and ears of our employees, and support them through excellent communication and empathy. You will also lead initiatives to enhance employee recognition, engagement, and overall employee experience.
  • Foster a safe space for our employees and exemplify the Via culture daily, making sure our team has a positive and fulfilling work environment. Provide real-time support for employee inquiries and investigations as necessary.
  • Administer employee benefits, including open enrollment, education, and addressing benefits-related questions.
  • Assist with payroll processes to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain organized and accurate employee records and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure company policies are communicated, implemented, and consistently applied across the team.
  • Support pre-hiring activities such as interviews, offer letters, and required testing or screenings.
  • Lead termination processes, including sensitive conversations and preparing required notices.
  • Deliver HR training programs, such as anti-harassment training and leadership development for managers.
  • Collaborate closely with our core HR team in New York, and align on best practices to drive efficiency through our processes
  • Coordinate office logistics and maintain relationships with local vendors to support local business needs.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in HR operations, employee relations, or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations (e.g., FMLA, ADA, FLSA, etc.).
  • You’re comfortable with ambiguity and flexible in adapting to changing needs, always looking for creative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with a process-driven mindset.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word).
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Final salary will be determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills. Salary reflected does not include equity or variable pay, where applicable
  • Salary Range: $55,000 - $70,000 per year
  • We are proud to offer a generous and comprehensive benefits package, including free medical plans and 401K matching.

We’re Via, and we build technology that changes the way the world moves. We pioneered the TransitTech category to ensure that the future of transportation is shared, dynamic public mobility — the kind that reduces carbon emissions across congested cities, minimizes reliance on private cars, and provides everyone with accessible, efficient, and affordable ways of getting around.

We created the first end-to-end TransitTech solution for cities and transit agencies, offering world-class software, service design, and operational expertise to fundamentally improve the way the world moves.

Via was founded with the guiding principle that we go further when we go together. We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles. All backgrounds, identities, and voices are welcomed and celebrated at Via.
