About You and The Role
The Data Platform team at Zipline manages the entire lifecycle of vehicle-centric data, from tools for visualizing logs to enabling data pipelines for collection, annotation, model training, and deployment.
We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong software engineering fundamentals and expertise in building scalable systems for data processing, machine learning pipelines, and monitoring. Your work will directly enhance the performance and efficiency of Zipline’s drones, operations, and global services.
In this role, you’ll design and implement robust, maintainable systems that meet Zipline’s end-to-end data needs. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll deliver solutions that drive actionable insights and informed decisions. You’ll also lead efforts to ensure data quality, reliability, and scalability, building infrastructure that grows with the company’s innovation.

What You'll Do
Design and implement robust data systems that integrate data from various internal and external systems into our data warehouse, ensuring efficient data processing and accessibility.
Contribute to state-of-the-art data infrastructure, including distributed training, continuous model integration, data management, and production system evaluation.
Build and maintain scalable software infrastructure to enable machine learning algorithms to leverage Zipline’s large-scale fleet data.
Design and scale deployment systems for data and ML pipelines supporting Perception, ensuring reproducibility, maintainability, and efficiency.
Build monitoring systems to track data quality, pipeline performance, and model behavior in production environments.
What You'll Bring
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including expertise in Python, C++, and Rust in production settings.
A generalist mindset with the ability to work across platforms, from cloud compute services to embedded systems.
Familiar with developing using major cloud provider products and IaC concepts.
Experienced in applying best practices for alerting, observability, and security for production applications
Experience with distributed systems, including Kubernetes for containerized applications and streaming platforms like Apache Kafka.
Familiarity with machine learning concepts and operating models in production environments
Experience in production data systems including validation, quality reporting, and data security
What Else You Need to Know
The starting cash range for this role is $160,000 - 190,000. Please note that this is a target, starting cash range for a candidate who meets the minimum qualifications for this role. The final cash pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, working location, and projected impact. The total compensation package for this role may also include: equity compensation; discretionary annual or performance bonuses; sales incentives; benefits such as medical, dental and vision insurance; paid time off; and more.
