Mechanic

Sioux Area Metro is South Dakota’s largest transit provider, dedicated to safe, reliable and community-focused transportation.

As a Mechanic at SAM by Via you will perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on buses, vehicles and shop equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate varied, complex vehicle and equipment service operations
• Repair or replace subsystems on heavy, medium and light-duty SAM coaches
• Collaborate with technicians, drivers and supervisors
• Maintain supplier and vendor relationships

Requirements:

• Knowledge of design, adjustment, operation, maintenance and repair of SAM coach systems and shop equipment
• Physical ability to stand 8 hours, lift 100 lbs and carry parts
• Strong manual dexterity
• High-school diploma or GED; trade school preferred; manufacturer training an advantage
• Valid SD driver’s license
• CDL learner’s permit required
• Pass pre-employment physical
• Drug screen & background check: no felonies, clean MVR, no DUI/DWI or reckless driving, max. 2 speeding tickets

Mechanic class (AA, A, B, C) determined during interview.

Compensation & Benefits:

• $28.82–$31.52/hour (≈$5,009–$5,479/month gross) based on experience
