Senior Backend Engineer

Via uses technology to transform transportation worldwide – from a single commuter’s daily ride to reducing humanity’s collective environmental footprint.

As a Senior Backend Engineer you will join our core R&D center within the Platform team. Together with developers and DevOps engineers you will build scalable back-end systems, define infrastructure standards and advance Via’s technology stack. This is a hybrid role expected onsite in New York City 2–3 days per week.

Your responsibilities:

• Design, build and maintain scalable back-end services and APIs
• Own features end-to-end from architecture to deployment and maintenance
• Research and introduce new technologies for all engineering teams
• Debug and optimize performance to ensure uptime and speed
• Collaborate closely with partner teams to ensure project success

Your profile:

• 5+ years of experience with robust back-end or full-stack systems
• Expertise in APIs, distributed systems and efficient database architectures
• Experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform
• Strong skills in system design, debugging and performance optimization

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary: $180,000 – $220,000 per year (experience-based)
