This is a rare opportunity for an experienced HV Electrical Engineer to showcase your skills, and design and implement the electrical systems for a true landmark project, right in the heartland of Gothenburg’s industry.

About us

NOVO Energy is a joint venture of Volvo Cars and Northvolt with the mission to power the next generation of pure electric Volvo and Polestar cars.

Over the next five years we’re developing a 55-hectare site, and building an industry leading Gigafactory in Torslanda. This landmark development will in time employ close to 3,000 people and become a major contributor in Gothenburg’s industry and technology sector.

The team

Our Construction team consists of construction and civil-engineering professionals with skills and experiences from major projects all over the world. Working as an EPCM (Engineering, Procurement & Construction Management) organisation, the team has end-to-end ownership for designing and delivering a Gigafactory that meets the needs of high-tech battery manufacturing using the most sustainable and innovative methods in construction.

What you will do

Our Electrical Design team is responsible for the design, and involved in installation and commissioning of all electrical systems required to support advanced battery manufacturing, ranging from 400V up to 132kV. This includes HV substation, the entire electrical distribution network (MV/LV), fire and security system for all auxiliary buildings, carparks, renewable generation infrastructure and BESS systems.

As a HV Electrical Engineer, you will work in close partnership with a team of experienced electrical engineer and support our Power System Engineering Lead. Here you’ll take a lead in all technical and project management activities related to HV electrical systems and be heavily involved in the design phase, procurement, installation, commissioning, energization, operation, and service.

Working in a cross-functional environment, you will be a partnering with stakeholders across our Construction and Manufacturing Engineering teams as well as external vendors.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Coordinate and instruct the contractor of HV substation from design to energization.

  • Participate, review, and verify the system design from substation contractor.

  • Liaise internally across disciplines (e.g., Mechanical, Architectural, Structural, Construction), and externally with suppliers, contractors, consultants, and Power Grid owner.

  • Participate in and review equipment design, selection, procurement and tests.

  • Develop constructive relationships with design consultants to eliminate gaps at the interface points from a practicality and feasibility standpoint.

  • Participate in installation and commissioning activities

  • Take part in the planning of the electrical infrastructure of the site, be part of the decision making.

Skills & Requirements

To succeed in this role, you need to bring practical and design knowledge in implementing HV power distribution systems in projects of high technical complexity. You are comfortable in making technical decisions, reviewing technical reports and drawings and know how to protect the integrity of the design. We also believe that you’re a proven problem solver, able to constructively work through ambiguities with a broad range of stakeholders and partners. Previous experience from major projects in multi-national working environment is a big plus.

  • Capable of working independently, and taking ownership of HV scope, being proactive.

  • Experienced in HV system design, plant design, installation, and/or construction.

  • Knowledgeable in HV equipment, power system analysis and operation.

  • Technical expertise is primarily required. Project management experience is a plus.

  • Experience in Control and protection is highly valued.

  • Business level proficiency in English is a must, Swedish is a plus.

  • Experience from Swedish construction sites and complex projects are highly preferred.
