Job Description

We are looking for a driven electrochemical testing intern to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our excellent simulation team based in Västerås. By joining us, you will play a valuable role in the electrochemical testing and characterization of our battery electrode and electrolyte materials.

About the job At Northvolt, your responsibilities will include high quality sample preparation (coin and 3-electrode cells) and performing electrochemical testing for characterizing state-of-the-art electrode and electrolyte materials. Your role will also involve supporting simulation team with data analysis for electrochemical model parameter estimation such as exchange current densities, diffusion coefficients, electrolyte conductivity etc.

About the team The cell-level simulation team is based in Västerås, Sweden. The team consists of five dedicated simulation engineers and is set to expand to nine within the next year. We have divided the team into electrical, electrochemical, thermal, and mechanical specializations but we collaborate regularly to tackle the multi-physics nature of problems in lithium-ion batteries. With this position, we are looking to extend our electrochemical simulation capabilities to meet the high demand for this topic.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• High quality cell sample preparation (coin, 3-electrode cells).
• Perform advanced electrochemical testing of battery electrode and electrolyte material
• Analyze and process experimental data for material property estimation

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have :

• BSc degree or higher in electrochemistry, or a related field. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Excellent English written and oral skills

Bonus points for:

• Experience in making coin cells.
• Experience in performing and interpreting electrochemical analysis such as GITT, EIS, etc.
• Experience in data analytics using MATLAB or Python.
• Fundamental knowledge of lithium-ion battery.
• Good organizational skills and the ability to manage a range of activities simultaneously.
• Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently.
