Job Description

Northvolt has an exciting opportunity for a Simulation Engineer in Factory Design & Engineering in Västerås. In joining us, you will play a crucial role from the very beginning in building some of our new battery factory sites.

This simulation engineer will support the factory design with a focus on modelling logistics and people flows at factory sites during the planning, installation, construction, and operational phases. You are the right fit if you enjoy collaboration with different teams & modelling a diverse range of complex systems and processes. Your role will involve simulation model conceptualization, implementation, validation, verification, and data analysis to deliver key insights and help find optimized solutions. Experience with high-volume production is highly valued. Must have experience in discrete event simulation using multidisciplinary input parameters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop simulation models of material, part, product, people, and traffic flows at factory sites to predict Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), validate designs, analyze “what-if” scenarios, and find optimal solutions.
  • Evaluate operating models and overall production capacity to support data-driven business decisions.
  • Contribute to creating the technical roadmap for analysis and simulations within Factory Design & Engineering department.
  • Present results and recommended actions through presentations, reports, and intuitive visualizations for engineers and management.
  • Support Northvolt’s philosophy on a high level, developing best practice sustainable manufacturing system configurations.

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s, MSc, or PhD degree in a highly quantitative field (Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science or similar).
  • 3+ years of professional experience with discrete-event simulation modelling using tools such as Siemens Plant Simulation (preferred). Additional experience with agent-based simulation or microscopic traffic simulation is an advantage. 
  • Strong programming skills in at least one general purpose programming language, preferably Python.
  • Experience with statistical data analysis and visualization.
  • Well-developed communication skills for frequent collaboration with subject matter experts and continuous alignment with stakeholders.
  • Experience working in the manufacturing or production industries is a significant plus.
  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD tools and Git software version control is preferred but not required.
