As a Senior IoT Backend Developer in 1KOMMA5°, you'll lead the development of a scalable microservices architecture on Google Cloud, connecting and controlling IoT devices as part of our Heartbeat platform.Your role involves designing robust backend services, implementing APIs, and creating consistent abstraction layers to facilitate seamless integration across diverse system components. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you'll contribute to the entire product lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design and implement a scalable microservices architecture on Google Cloud Platform to handle the integration and control of thousands of IoT devices
Lead the development of robust and efficient backend services, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security.
Continuously optimize the performance of the platform to handle large-scale deployments.
Design and implement APIs and abstraction layers for seamless communication between different components of our Heartbeat platform.
Work closely with frontend and data engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver end-to-end solutions.

Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, CloudSQL, Firestore, BigQuery …)
IoT applications
Microservice architectures

You have:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 5+ of experience in backend development, with a focus on scalable microservice architectures.
Proven experience with cloud infrastructure (ideally Google Cloud)
Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Python, and TypeScript
Experience in designing and implementing APIs for complex systems.
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
Familiarity with IoT protocols, data visualization libraries, and database management
Experience quickly finding your way around in cross-functional teams in a fast pace, interdisciplinary working environment
An agile and result-oriented mindset and you consider yourself a team player
Very good knowledge of spoken and written English, German is a plus
Bonus points for:
Experience with IaC (ideally Terraform)
Experience building containerised applications deployed on Kubernetes or Google Cloud Run
Experience with building applications following 12factor.net rules and principles
Interest in climate tech industry
Experience with Data Engineering: Machine Learning, data pipelines
