Job Description

We are looking for a experienced Senior Process Control Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. Joining Northvolt means being part of a dynamic team at the forefront of the battery industry revolution. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the development of next-generation products. Our inclusive and collaborative culture fosters innovation and creativity, while our commitment to sustainability drives our mission forward.

As a Senior Process Control Engineer at Northvolt, you will spearhead critical initiatives to ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency in our electrode manufacturing processes. Leveraging your expertise in fluid and electrode process control, you will take the lead in making technology decisions and optimizing in-line process control systems. Your responsibilities will include commissioning, integrating, and fine-tuning these systems to maximize functionality and throughput in our high-speed roll-to-roll processes. With a focus on visualizations for both production and engineering teams, you will enable real-time monitoring and analysis, empowering our teams to maintain peak performance and drive continuous improvement.

Currently the team consist of 5 subject matter experts, who's experienced in a specific processes. We aim to expand the team to at least 10 engineers. Our team's overarching objective is to drive innovation and advancement within the battery industry. This includes introducing new technologies and next-generation products, leading the scale-up process from pilot line to mass production, and resolving bottlenecks by integrating new technologies into existing production lines. We prioritize understanding the fundamental structure-property relationship of the electrode and conduct trials to enhance our understanding and share knowledge with fellow electrode engineers.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Make technology decisions for in-line process control devices, focusing on viscosity, density, and solid content for fluid processes.
  • Commission, integrate, and optimize in-line process control systems to ensure optimal functionality in high-throughput mass production, including visualization for production and engineering teams.
  • Drive technology decisions and make-or-buy determinations for vision systems and electrode loading level in-line measuring equipment for electrode processes.

  • Commission, integrate, and optimize in-line process control systems to maximize functionality in high-speed roll-to-roll processes, providing visualization for production and engineering teams.

  • Utilize extensive experience in fluid metrology, including rheology, particle size analysis, and porosity analysis, to enhance process control

As we work towards building a mass production facility, we require individuals with deep industrial and theoretical knowledge of the electrode process. The ideal candidate will contribute by conducting trials and research to obtain and implement crucial learnings. Given the simultaneous nature of this work alongside production, engineers must be capable of independently solving complex problems while maintaining a relative distance from direct production involvement. Contribution stems from applying first principles to identify root causes of issues and leveraging experience and knowledge to propose unconventional solutions.

Northvolt is an equal opportunity employer. We're a diverse group of individuals, united by a common mission, who recognise that while our actions as individuals have a role to play in driving Northvolt towards its goals, we always seek to move forward as a team. We offer you an open and welcoming atmosphere where we win as a team – and fail as a team. Northvolt is growing at the speed of light and we are a strong believer in internal career development. For us it’s important to look at your skills and potential, please refrain form including your picture and age with your application to help us with this.
