Job Description

We are looking for a driven Supply Chain Project Manager to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our excellent Materials & Components Purchasing team based in Stockholm/Vasteras. By joining us, you will be a key player in establishing/ramping up battery materials Supply Chain and contribute to building one of the first large scale European battery factories.

As a Supply Chain Project Manager, your main responsibility is to oversee and ensure the successful planning, execution, and completion of customer projects. This role involves close collaboration with various parts of the supply chain, including Category Managers for Direct Cell Materials, Raw Materials, Supplier Quality, Planning and Logistics. Additionally, you'll be responsible for managing stakeholder relationships with teams such as Business Development, Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Cell Design, Finance, and, most importantly, our customers.

Your overarching goal is to plan, organize, direct, and manage projects to meet the profitability targets, time, quality, and capacity targets of selected Northvolt projects, as well as important customer targets.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

  • Project Planning: Develop detailed project plans with clear timelines, milestones, and resource requirements.
  • Supplier Management: Monitor and manage supplier capacities, quality, and economic objectives to achieve targets, with support from strategic purchasing and supplier quality teams, particularly in resolving quality or capacity issues.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Coordinate with internal stakeholders (including Business Development, Process Engineering, Cell Design, Automation, Quality, Logistics, Manufacturing, and Finance) to ensure timely agreements, cost roadmaps, joint commitments, and shared goals.
  • Project Management Framework: Design and implement a supply chain project management framework, processes, milestones, reviews, and reporting dashboards aligned with Northvolt's project management principles, quality management system, and company strategy.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the broader supply chain organization and Northvolt PMO to achieve goals in innovative and effective ways.
  • Customer Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders in all matters pertaining to Supply Chain, ensuring their needs and expectations are clearly understood and addressed.
  • Resource Allocation: Efficiently secure and allocate resources to meet project objectives.
  • Budget Management: With the Project Cost Manager, track project spend to reach profitability and report on budget variances.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Regularly assess customer satisfaction and promptly address any concerns or issues.
  • Reporting activities: Generate reports, analyse procurement data, and provide insights to project stakeholders regarding Supply Chain performance, cost trends, vendor performance, and potential areas for improvement. Identify and assess procurement risks, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor risk factors to minimize disruptions and ensure continuity of the supply chain

We believe that you have:

  • BSc or MSc in relevant Engineering Fields or Supply Chain
  • 7+ years of experience as purchasing project manager or category manager in purchasing functions from automotive/aerospace/chemical industry or battery field (preferred direct material).
  • Sound written and oral English skills, other European or Asian language nice to have.
  • A thorough understanding of procurement processes, including sourcing, negotiating contracts, and supplier management. Knowledge of supply chain dynamics, including inventory management, logistics, and distribution channels.
  • Capability to identify and assess procurement risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement risk management plans.
  • Capability to master project management methodologies and tools to coordinate procurement activities with overall project timelines and objectives.
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve procurement-related issues promptly to ensure uninterrupted project progress.
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in procurement documentation, information gathering, information sharing and compliance with Northvolt internal processes.
  • Capability to lead and motivate a team of procurement professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
  • Basic understanding of financial principles and budgeting to manage project procurement within budgetary constraints.
  • Understanding of automotive industry standards (IATF 16949, ISO 9001, AIAG, VDA, IMDS) and regulations related to chemical/components procurement (REACH, RoHS).

  • Strong collaboration skills, internal (Supply Chain) and external (Cell Design, Customer quality, Industrialization managers, Customer Project managers, Key Account managers, Technical Project managers).
  • Strong ability to drive projects to completion in line with deadlines independently but with support and alignment from management and stakeholders.
  • Be available to travel to Northvolt’s production sites and suppliers to support Category managers.
