Engineering Manager – Analytics Platform

Over the past decade Octopus Energy has grown from a UK start-up to the country’s largest energy provider and a global leader, serving more than 10 million customers across eight countries. We are now launching a new Analytics Platform team to drive data strategy worldwide.

Role overview

You will own the next iteration of our global analytics platform, ensuring technical innovation, setting standards and enabling thousands of users to derive insight from energy data. The platform underpins everything from monitoring renewable-generation performance to processing trillions of smart-meter readings for breakthrough tariffs that accelerate the journey to Net Zero.

What you’ll do

• Build and maintain best-in-class tooling for data transformation, visualisation and AI, blending open-source, SaaS and in-house technologies
• Architect a discoverable, reusable data estate that supports cross-team collaboration for technical and non-technical users
• Partner with domain data teams to scope, prioritise and deliver high-impact data products
• Grow a vibrant Analytics Engineering community through training, documentation and collaboration
• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of 3–5 engineers

What you’ll bring

• Deep, current analytics-engineering expertise (dbt, SQL, Python, Git)
• Strong software-engineering discipline: testing, CI/CD, observability
• Proven ability to balance technical depth with product thinking and stakeholder management
• Autonomy and pragmatism when tackling varied, self-driven projects

Bonus: experience leading small teams or managing BI platforms such as Lightdash, Looker, Omni or Metabase.
