Commercial Accountant (Supply Chain)

Join our fast-growing Finance team at Octopus Energy Services as a qualified Commercial Accountant focused on supply chain. Own cost-of-sales and inventory reporting while partnering daily with Finance and Supply Chain teams to drive continuous improvement.

What you’ll do

• Close monthly books: prepare divisional and consolidated management accounts, calculate and review monthly Cost of Sales and ensure accurate cost allocations for installed items
• Manage inventory lifecycle: record all purchases, allocations, returns and write-offs in the general ledger
• Investigate variances: reconcile physical stock counts to system records, explain quantity and value differences, support periodic valuation reviews including obsolescence and NRV tests
• Partner with operations: deliver clear variance analysis, documentation and correcting journals to finance and operational stakeholders
• Drive forecasting & budgeting: own monthly re-forecast narratives and help build the annual budget plus robust KPI tracking models
• Design better processes: review and improve finance controls; implement leaner, stronger ways of working
• Lead audits: perform monthly balance-sheet reconciliations, prepare year-end schedules and act as primary contact for inventory / cost-of-sales queries

What you’ll need

• Professional qualification: fully or recently qualified (ICAS, ICAEW/ACA, CIMA, ACCA or UK-recognised foreign equivalent)
• Experience: 2–3+ years in cost accounting, commercial finance with inventory / cost-of-sales, or similar analytical role within a physical-stock environment (retail, manufacturing, hardware installation)
• Tools: advanced Excel (data analysis, financial modelling); NetSuite highly desirable
• Communication: proven ability to present financial data clearly to finance and operational audiences
• Mind-set: proactive, self-driven, rigorous attention to detail and accuracy
