Optimisation Manager

Octopus Energy is leading the energy transition by developing technology that makes energy cheaper and greener. The Flexibility team creates next-generation products that automate EV charging, shift household demand through Saving Sessions and Free Electricity, and manage grid-scale batteries to balance the system. These products serve millions of customers and accelerate the global shift to renewables.

What you will do

• Act as the in-house expert on flexibility markets, translating market rules into product and trading requirements.
• Own the monetisation strategy: assess market structures, define participation criteria for assets and customers, and design trading and scheduling strategies with the Trading team.
• Identify commercial opportunities and regulatory barriers; champion simplification to lower entry barriers through stakeholder engagement and real-world pilots.
• Work with Data Science to scope analyses and validate insights that underpin strategy decisions.
• Convert complex market, product and operational requirements into clear technical briefs for analysts and developers.
• Coordinate commercial, policy, product and engineering teams to deliver successful participation in chosen markets and services.

What you will need

• Deep knowledge of GB and global flexibility markets and grid services; familiarity with PV, wind, demand response and storage technologies.
• Proven techno-economic and financial modelling skills.
• Ability to digest technical and regulatory information and translate it into commercial opportunities.
• Comfort with ambiguous stakeholder briefs; decisive, strategic mindset with strong communication skills.
• Agile, entrepreneurial approach: optimise in detail while nurturing the commercial offering.
• Fast learner who thrives in a high-pace environment and leads initiatives with limited resources.
• Empathy and team-development mindset; excellent documentation skills.
• Python and SQL experience is a plus.
• Passion for sustainability, green energy and Net-Zero power systems.
