Cost Accountant

Role: Cost Accountant – Octopus Energy Services, London (Finance team, reporting to Finance Business Partner – Supply Chain).

Own inventory-related accounting end-to-end, support month-end close, and drive accurate product-cost reporting for a fast-growing energy business with a sizeable physical supply chain.

Your responsibilities

• Post daily inventory transactions (purchases, transfers, returns, write-offs) accurately to the general ledger.
• Prepare monthly divisional and consolidated accounts; calculate and review Cost of Goods Sold and installed-item cost allocations.
• Reconcile physical stock counts to perpetual records (quantity & value) and investigate variances.
• Assist in inventory-valuation reviews, obsolescence and NRV assessments.
• Complete balance-sheet reconciliations, focusing on inventory integrity.
• Continuously improve inventory-tracking and control processes.
• Support auditors at year-end.
• Provide data for re-forecasts, annual budgeting and Supply-Chain KPI tracking.

Essential

• Degree in Accounting/Finance (or equivalent experience).
• Part-qualified or studying AAT/ACCA/CIMA/ACA/ICAS.
• 1-2 years’ cost-accounting experience; familiarity with physical inventory preferred (retail, manufacturing, field-installation).
• Advanced Excel; NetSuite experience desirable.
• High attention to detail, proactive approach, strong communication skills.
