Tax Manager – Asia

Role summary

Octopus Energy Generation manages £7 bn of clean-energy assets. To accelerate net-zero, we are strengthening our in-house tax capability and need a technically strong, commercially minded Tax Manager to own the tax agenda for our Asia-Pacific renewable-energy fund and our energy-transition technology funds.

What you’ll do

• Fund-level tax leadership – Own tax strategy, structuring and governance for allocated funds; advise on SPVs, financing, co-investments and exits across APAC and early-stage tech investments.
• Compliance & reporting – Oversee corporate income tax, VAT, withholding-tax and local filings; manage external advisers; monitor legislative change across APAC markets.
• Tax accounting – Review provisions, journals and disclosures for audited accounts; support investor reporting.
• Risk management – Maintain governance frameworks, manage audits and escalate material risks.
• Transaction support – Lead tax work-streams on acquisitions, disposals, refinancings and restructurings; perform due-diligence on infrastructure assets and VC-style deals.
• Stakeholder engagement – Be the primary tax contact for investment, finance and portfolio teams; deliver clear, pragmatic advice that balances technical rigour with commercial pace.

What you’ll need

• 5–6+ years post-qualified corporate-tax experience (CTA / ACA or tax-qualified lawyer).
• Background in Big 4, international law firm or in-house with cross-border exposure.
• Proven track record managing multi-jurisdictional structures and advisers.
• Strong tax-accounting and provision experience.
• Comfortable reviewing transaction documents and running deal timelines.
• Clear communicator able to influence senior finance and investment professionals.

Nice to have

• Private equity, venture capital, infrastructure or energy-sector exposure.
• Fund-structure knowledge and/or APAC language skills.
• Pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset for a fast-growth environment.
